How Teachers Can Help You With Your ADD Child – Attention Deficit Disorder In Children

Attention deficit disorder, also known as ADD, may be affecting you and your family if your child has been diagnosed with this problem. Because your child spends so much time at school, being able to work with your child’s teacher will be very important in dealing with this within your family. Here are some ways to make this a part of the solution to your personal situation.

Make a appointment right away to speak with your child’s teacher. It is best to do this in person, so do not write a note or give any details to the person at the school that schedules the appointments for you. You will want to make sure you can sit down with the teacher in a comfortable and familiar setting to discuss this important issue.

My Twitter experience felt very much like a reaction to my telling the truth about these issues our culture wants to disavow. If I as a professional am impacted, imagine how much more so this stigma impacts survivors, I was reminded.  The silencing, minimizing and blaming that can occur when a survivor tries to tell their story is a whole other level of traumatization.

This experience reminded me that visibility and conversation about trauma-related topics is crucial.  It is why I see blogging and using social media to be an important part of my work as a trauma therapist.  By speaking out about trauma and its impact I hope to support those who must live with it and to educate those who do not yet understand.

Let us say that your ADHD child has temper tantrums and meltdowns, is aggressive, obnoxious and acts out at school. In addition he may be a defiant child and full of the victimisation syndrome which these kids often have. How do you teach them to be responsible for their actions ? That is precisely what parents learn in a behavior modification program and it is sometimes used as the only way of treating ADHD without meds, although I personally do not agree with that.

- Realize that nature vs. nurture is a false dichotomy. Our environment (how we are nurtured) effects our brain chemistry. “Chemical imbalances” as the cause of psychological problems rarely exist in a vacuum.

Please do share your experiences with stigma related to trauma issues, or mental health in general,  and how you combat and cope with this

Sometimes anxiety can be a good thing. Anxiety is our natural response to danger. Anxiety awakens our senses, keeping us alert, and ready to address unexpected situations. Some of the physical symptoms of anxiety make everyday living a challenge. These things make anxiety a negative experience. Instead of making progress, we find ourselves backpedaling, when it comes to anxiety.

Can you name the symptoms of anxiety? Many different things contribute to the onset of anxiety. Anxiety can feel like our fight or flight response has taken hold. The physical symptoms of anxiety include the following:

Increased cardiac activity. Not to be confused with a heart attack itself. Sweating profusely, even though the temperature of the skin is very cool. Stained clothing, beneath the armpits, can be one of the most embarrassing situations.S

Many people also experience an uneasy, or upset stomach. Indigestion from increased levels of gastric acid, can be caused by anxiety.

Anxiety can also be characterized by frequent urination, or even diarrhea.

Hypoxia (shortness of breath) is also associated with anxiety. Hypoxia is one of the most common physical symptoms of anxiety.

You may also experience tremors, or twitches, during an bout of anxiety. Our body is geared up for a battle, whatever it may be.  As a result, muscle rigidity is also symptom.

Brain fog, or confusion, can also be a symptom of anxiety.

Anxiety can also be responsible for the onset of fatigue. You may feel weak, and sluggish.

Some people experience insomnia, as anxiety has the brain working overtime.

These represent the most common physical symptoms of anxiety. Don’t allow anxiety to beat you, there are ways to effectively deal with it. My wish for you would be that this information assists  you in a meaningful way; identifying the most common anxiety symptoms, and giving you confidence when facing them. Try and remember that anxiety was not designed to be counterproductive to our comfort levels, and health, but rather a response to impending danger. Do not define your anxiety as a disease, physical, or psychological imbalance, as it, in fact, a natural reaction, that can be regulated.

Panic Attack Free – Stay In Control

Panic attacks can make your world seem small, isolated, an claustrophobic as you feel limited by more and more constraints. Learn to control your panic attacks with the following techniques.

Triumph Over Fear and Panic Attacks

”Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway,” is a favorite book, I reference often. Through it, I learned that fear has to be confronted, head-on. An excellent read; buy a copy today.

Start slowly when attempting to overcome fear, and anxiety; facing the little things you fear first. Nothing heroic; just something small, that you’ve feared for some time. Perhaps asking for directions for a stranger. Confide in a friend regarding your panic attacks. Or ask for professional help.

You’ll be amazed of the results when you face fear head-on. The fears simply go away. Your fears will become associated with something new.

Stress and Anxiety Coping Skills

Too much stress can be overwhelming at times while you’re struggling to come to terms with the many things going on around you. Take action to reduce your stress, by eliminating unnecessary things, and situations.  When you do this you will quickly learn that there are many things that you used to think were important that really aren’t that pressing/

You will be surprised as your to-do list becomes so much shorter. Put a line through them and move on. Would it really matter if you didn’t reply to every email? Avoid the irrelevant, and unnecessary.

Overcome Negative Thinking

Where rampant thoughts run wild, there you will find anxiety and stress. A negative thought can be changed, simply by changing your perspective; add a little humor.

Inject some random, unrelated, humor into those obsessive negative thoughts. Fancy it a comic strip with funny characters. Or possibly even a song, or movie, playing backwards at a high speed.

This will help you stop fixating of things that are negative, and end the unhealthy pattern of obsessive thinking.

Your panic attacks will be easier to manage, if not non-existent, by using these three techniques.

Seven Natural Anxiety Treatments That Really Work

You can fight anxiety the natural way with these seven strategies. Some patients have reported an increase in panic attacks while on medication. May I also point out that medication can be costly, whereas a natural remedy is free. These smart tips will help you naturally overcome anxiety in a healthy way.

Step one of your natural anxiety treatment regimen will be the simplest – breathe deeply. When you feel anxiety coming on, stop, take a time out, and breathe deeply. Deep breathing will raise your oxygen level, and therefore is amazing at controlling anxiety. Simple, yes, but to overcome anxiety, you must think outside of the box. Just inhale deeply, and release.

Secondly, exercising is an excellent natural anxiety treatment. Research has shown that endorphins are released while exercising, creating a “happy-go-lucky” feeling. As a result, your energy level will increase, as your muscles relax. As anxiety attacks, some feel like giving up, but stick with it. Exercising is such an awesome way to focus your energy away from anxiety. Exercising can be as simple as taking a walk. You will feel so relaxed after the fact.

Thirdly, you can listen to relaxing music, as a part of your natural anxiety treatment course. It will probably come as no surprise that relaxing music is an effective, natural reliever of anxiety.  I find it so much easier to relax when I listen to a classical piece, or envision rolling, ocean waves. Not just any music, be certain that whatever you choose is soothing. Music, for whatever reason, helps to control your anxiety, in such an effortless way.

The fourth natural anxiety treatment you can try is to increase your leisurely enjoyment. Your anxiety will seem a distant memory, with a concerted effort to enjoy yourself on a daily basis. It is so simple; you could read, or watch a movie. Whatever you choose, you must enjoy it! Playing with my dogs is so relaxing for me. It may appear childish, but I find my day more relaxing when I play video games. The only hard, and fast, rule to leisure, is that it is enjoyed.

The fifth natural anxiety treatment, is to drink a glass of water. Dehydration can exacerbate feelings of anxiety. The benefits of drinking more water are endless. You will be able to water down those feelings of an anxiety attack, with nature’s beverage.  You will be able to remain calm, by alleviating your thirst. Please stay away from sugar-rich beverages, as they serve to increase your thirst, which can increase your anxiety. Furthermore, caffeine is not your friend at this exact moment either. Caffeine can serve to add fuel to the fire, when you are experiencing an anxiety attack. An increased heart rate, and insomnia, are both linked to the drinking of too much coffee.

The sixth natural anxiety treatment would be to savor your slumber, and get more sleep. Sleeping is the body’s time to replenish energy levels, so more of it will help you combat anxiety. Research has shown that eight hours of sleep is what the average individual will benefit from. You will wake up feel less anxious.

The seventh, and final, natural anxiety treatment is to think positively. A positive demeanor goes a long way in battling anxiety. Happy thoughts and anxiety, simply don’t mix. Try to live a worry-free existence, so that your level of anxiety will be as low as possible.

This list includes the seven most effective, and natural ways to combat anxiety. You can control your anxiety without medications. A natural approach to anxiety control is best. Besides, it’s free!

Overcome Your Driving Phobia With These Smart Tips

Smash! After I was hit, I began to slowly, steer, my mangled, mesh of metal, over to the side of the highway. I was trembling, and quivering. Even though I was physically okay, emotionally, I had acquired a phobia of driving.

For most, driving is an ordinary part of the day. We drive to visit friends, family, or to earn a living. We will even drive around the corner to the grocery market. Does your phobia of driving, keep you from enjoying life? What can be done to restore you to freedom, and mobility?

Believe it or not, a phobia of driving isn’t uncommon. Too many people feel that they must hide that they suffer from this phobia. After the crash, I dreaded getting behind the wheel. I’d carpool, walk, or simply stay home, if I couldn’t get to my destination by other means.

I felt so inadequate. If you don’t live in the city where you can walk most places, you might feel as though your world has become very, very, small.

First, let go of the feelings of guild associated with your phobia of driving.  It’s an understandable condition; considering what you’ve been through. You were trapped in a ton of crumpled metal. Now if that doesn’t warrant a phobia of driving, what does?

Before we examine your phobia of driving, let’s examine the cause.

Maybe you fear being trapped again.

Perhaps you fear the other driver’s missteps that could result in another wreck.

Maybe it’s the layout of the roads, signs, and lights, that have you confused.

So many things can cause you to develop a phobia of driving. Examine the origins. Mull over what happened to you, and try to come up with the why.

In all honesty, you may not want to get back behind the wheel, so how can you triumph over your phobia of driving? After you discover the cause of the problem, try a different approach.

If the more complicated routes intimidate you, try mapping out an alternative, and less-traveled route. Think of it as a game of navigation. Each leg of your journey is a milestone accomplishment. Seatbealt, mirrors, look over your shoulder, and you’re off.

This fear of driving doesn’t have to consume you. Change the way you think about driving a car, and get back behind the wheel.

Bipolar Disorder Test – An Essential Thing To Do To Determine The Underlying Signs

Do you want to do the bipolar disorder test wherein you are able to distinguish the signs and symptoms of this condition? You may not know but you might be suffering from a manic depression. Bipolar  disorder was discovered by Emil  Kraepelin recently during the late  nineteenth century. Contrary to what many people have thought, bipolar has become more prevalent in the society since its discovery.

To be able to determine the  underlying symptoms of bipolar,  one must has to do the self test for bipolar disorder. This will allow you to seek possible treat ments and medications.

Mixed State
If your bipolar diagnosis test shows that you have the feelings of lethargy and anxiety, this is an  indication that you might be having the manic depression. This  is a mixed state which is a  combination of the worst of  depression and the worst of  mania. This is a condition when you  have the  feeling of tiredness and exhaustion. A person who has a mixed state has the risk of doing a probable suicide due to depression but they still have the strength to kill themselves.

Psychosis
This is known to be the advanced state of mania. If you have conducted a  bipolar disorder test and have  discovered that you or the  patient may not realize what is  going on around them or do not  know where they are, they may  have the risk of showing signs of  bipolar disorder. In this condition, the mind becomes erratic and blurred which can also lead to possible suicide attempts. They may even  hear voices and hallucinations.  This is a situation where the patient needs quick hospitalization.

Memory Problems
Recently, experts have stated that an untreated bipolar disorder can lead to the loss of brain matter. The signs include impulse control and short-term memory problem, like the Alzheimer’s disease. Remembering dates, names and faces of people can be very difficult and even embarrassing.

Insomnia
Someone with bipolar disorder especially those who are in the  advanced state of mania can stay  awake for a period of days. This is the possible result of caffeine tablets over dosage and stressful environments. If this condition persists for days, it can lead to possible psychosis. And when one is insomniac, his work performance gets affected and may have the risk of loosing his job.

Live A Better Life With Hypnosis Therapy

Many psychologist Melbourne counsellors and therapists now offer hypnosis therapy as a treatment option. Some clients think this is only a last resort solution for persistent life issues. The truth though is that the process is really best for helping individuals resolve mundane life issues that most people have such as bad habits.

People can have numerous habits they want changed through hypnotherapy. The usual habits that require attention revolve around eating, alcohol consumption and smoking. Expert counsellors however can virtually help individuals effect change regardless of the habit in question. A qualified practitioner uses one or a combination of techniques to assist people into better life conditions. You shouldn’t imagine though that hypnosis treatment is the real hero of the moment.

To be more exact, hypnotherapy is really more of a vehicle or tool that can be used to help people arrive at a better state of mind or at healthier life conditions. Before actual change can occur, the procedure first leads the person into a deep sense of self realization regarding the root cause of persistent bad habits. Moreover, the process also involves realizing that something can and must be done to save or improve oneself.

One aspect that can sometimes mar hypnosis Melbourne therapy is the notion that it is just the same as stage hypnosis. In stage shows, a person being hypnotized enters a trance and then becomes the limp follower of the hypnotist. This is an image that is frequently related to hypnosis therapy. Those who are brave enough to consider such an idea think that bad habits will just disappear without difficulty or effort. This is just not the case.

Counsellors who use the procedure do not take away free will and control from clients. In true hypnotherapy, a client is only placed in an altered state of consciousness. It is in this state that a person becomes more in touch with the subconscious or with memories and parts of his inner self that normally don’t surface because of more pressing daily concerns.

It is only when a client digs deep within that bad habits are traced to their origins and how they formed. One main point why such a realization is crucial in hypnosis treatment is that this is the path in which people start to see how horribly damaging bad habits are and that they should be fixed soon. Since free will is still present though, clients are able to refuse to continue the journey to realization at any point in time.

Knowing what genuine hypnotherapy is, it is obvious that not all clients can take advantage of it. Only individuals who aren’t too skeptical about the procedure will be able to take the right therapeutic steps with it. Also, individuals who generally adopt an overwhelming negative perspective may not react favorably to hypnotherapy.

Yes, bad habits can go away through hypnosis therapy. It is however incorrect to treat it or regard the therapist as the sole secrets to change. As with any other solution to a problem, it is really the person undergoing therapy that is the real key to change.

Is Stress Counselling Good For You?

A lot of people go through different levels of stress on a daily basis. Many of these tension filled situations however are actually advantageous because they enable us to complete vital duties. Getting too much pressure however can be bad. This is when you might have to manage tension through such solutions as stress counselling with a psychologist Melbourne expert. You might therefore want to check if this is the best option to consider.

Before anything else though, your first order of priority should be to accept within yourself that you need assistance. There are individuals who consciously opt to bypass third party aid since they are aware that everyone goes through stress. What you should keep in mind though is that extreme stress can affect different aspects of your life. You might eventually end up with elevated blood pressure, increased blood sugar levels and low energy levels. Too much internal tension can also have an impact on long term relationships and short term social interactions.

You may be able to deal with some level of tension yourself. Some great self-help techniques include progressive muscle relaxation, visualization and meditation. Most of these can be applied while a person is performing daily duties and responsibilities. You already need stress management counselling Melbourne sessions however if these techniques no longer work or if they are helpful only for a very limited period of time. You’d also know when you need an expert’s help if you have gotten repeatedly sick, if you are unable to function at work or if your relationships or social life have significantly eroded.

Some specific signals that should push you to look for help are ailments like diabetes, repeated infections and recurring flu. Naturally, it is best to first approach a medical doctor for medical symptoms just to make sure that you don’t have an alarming underlying medical condition. Aside from physical symptoms you may also go through mental issues such as poor focus and depression. Socially, you may notice less people wanting to interact with you and even the special people in your sphere may grow more distant.

A good counsellor can provide assistance in a number of ways. In general though, the major benefits lie in helping people realize the root cause of problems, pinpoint appropriate solutions and implement these solutions in the best possible manner. The ability to do all this is in every individual but sometimes, stress counselling is needed because many extremely stressed out individuals are unable to see past what burdens them.

Approaches in counselling can significantly differ from each other. Not every individual will benefit from every approach. An expert would have to first assess the frame of mind of a client and his level of openness. A counsellor’s theoretical background would also partly determine how a session should proceed. A lot of practitioners now turn to client centeredness. This is a good approach for most people because responsibility is always placed in the hands of the individual. The counsellor’s role is restricted to providing guidance.

Not everyone is eager to undergo stress management counselling. If you find it hard to keep your head above the water however, this might really be the best solution for you.
